Fiesta Island Changes?

Urgent Message from the Over The Line Players Association:

The City wants a Survey back right away about improvements to Fiesta Island. We (OTLPA and probably OMBAC too) are going to the City of San Diego with objections on changing Fiesta Island. We want it preserved for OTL. It's possibly one of our last large venues for OTL (there's talk of putting a hotel on Mariner's in the future) and for sure the ONLY spot that OMBAC could hold a large tourney. If they take this away, we will have no where to play OTL tourneys. If they put in grass or concessions or other park improvements, it will give the City an excuse to charge us even more money for our permits and for improvements, and only use their facilities. For example, the OTLPA Snack Bar right now funds all the other Junior OTL tournaments and the equipment, trailer and truck. This might kill Juniors, and might kill OTL. Haven't we already had enough obstacles? Within the last year, our bankrupt City (always looking for more ways to get themselves out of their hole they made) has already increased our usage fee from $40/day to $400/day. And drastically increased OMBAC's fees even way, way worse.

We are going to fill out the Survey for the OTLPAers en masse and turn it into the City for the meeting on this subject. But since you are not OTLPA members, we cannot do this for you. So we need to ask you a favor. This is very important for YOUR sport of OTL. We must work together in large numbers.

Go to the OTLPA Website and click on the FIESTA SURVEY on the front top page to see the form. The address it goes to is an Architect, which makes us suspicious that they would even show the City our opinions, if it curbs their chance for a large job and making lots of money. It also is awfully interesting that they didn't send this out until after OMBAC OTL, so that OMBAC couldn't copy 10,000 of them and get the spectators/players to sign and OMBAC send in. Please fill it out by checking the box that says you want it to remain as is, with no changes (Section 7, third box down). Camping, RV, swim sections, turf and picnic tables, etc. will all cause them to have an excuse to raise fees, and only use their areas. Volleyball could play there now, as is. It doesn't need any changes for that, yet they imply it does. It's all a camouflaged excuse to open a big ol' can of worms for us. Nothing wrong with road improvements as needed, but that's a given and what our State and City is supposed to automatically do anyway.
